Today you will start your tour from Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia. Upon arrival into Hohhot, your tour guide and driver will escort you to hotel. The rest time is yours.
Hohhot, sometimes spelled Huhehot or Huhhot, is a city in North-central China and the capital of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, serving as the region’s administrative, economic, and cultural centre. The city was founded by Mongol ruler Altan Khan in the late 16th century. It was chosen as the region’s administrative centre in 1952, replacing Ulanhot. A city with a rich cultural background, Hohhot is known for its historical sites and temples and is one of the major tourist destinations of Inner Mongolia. It is also nationally known as the home of China’s dairy giants Mengniu and Yili, and was declared "Dairy Capital of China" by the national government in 2006. The name of the city in Mongolian means "Blue City." The color blue in Mongolian culture is associated with the sky, eternity and purity.
Day 2
Mongolian Grasslands
Today, you will visit Dazhao Lamasery, the Five Pagoda Monastery, and Inner Mongolia Museum.
This Dazhao Lamasery was built with elegant features. The main hall was built after the style of Tibetan Lamasery, while the other parts were built in a more traditional style that may be regularly seen in other lamaseries across China. There is a consecrated silver portrait of Buddha located in the main hall. Though the portrait of Buddha has a long history of 400 years, it has been well preserved through the years. Because of this the Dazhao Lamasery is also named Yinfo Lamasery (Silver Buddha Lamasery).
The Dazhao Lamasery has a collection of many precious religious and cultural relics, among which the silver Buddha, dragon sculpture, and fresco are the most cherished treasures. Of its abundant religious relics perhaps the most notable are the ’Three Marvelous Treasures’, a title given to the Silver Buddha, the carved dragons on the huge golden pillars on either side of the statue and the murals commemorating the Emperor’s visit.
Five-Pagoda Temple (Wuta Si), which is also called Jingangzuo Sheli Baota, is located in Hohhot City. As there are five small dagobas on the pedestal of the pagoda, it is named Wuta Si. Wuta was originally a building of the temple constructed during 1727-1732. Now the temple has disappeared, but the pagoda has remained. The Five Pagoda Temple is a unique temple in China as it features classic Indian style architecture.
Inner Mongolia Museum, which was founded on the occasion of the tenth anniversary (May 1, 1957) of the establishment of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (aka Inner Mongolia), is also a regional if not a quasi-national (all ethnic "nationalities" of China are of course of "Chinese nationality") museum in the sense that it is a window on the Mongolian culture of this proud autonomous ethnic region. The building of the museum is novel in the architectural style, combining traditional features with modern ideas and style. On the top of the main structure of the building stands the statue of a galloping horse, symbolizing the rapid development of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The exhibition area of the museum is 35,000 sq. meters.
Day 3
Mongolian Grasslands
Today,5 Day Inner Mongolia Tour takes you to visit the largest and best preserved monastery in Inner Mongolia, Wudangzhou.
"Wudangzhao" is Badageer Monastery in Mongolian and was built in Qing Dynasty in 1749. The first living Buddha Luobusangjialacuo Lama of this monastery selected the place himself, and built it according to the monastery pattern brought from Tibet.
The Wudangzhao Monastery was built against mountain and the monastery construction form an independent area, without outer walls around and having more than 2,500 palaces and rooms.
The Tibetan designed construction is the only existing complete Lamaism monastery in the south districts of the whole vast desert.
Day 4
Hohhot
Today you will visit Resonant Sand Bay, and the mausoleum of the Great Genghis Kahn near hohhot in this 5 Day Inner Mongolia Tour.
Resonant Sand Bay is a scenic area mixed with desert and ethnic features. Here, you can enjoy the stunning scenery of the vast desert, and take part in the exciting activities. Resonant Sand Bay has the first-class ethnic performance in Inner Mongolia and the largest camel troupe in China. To many tourists, the most exciting experience at Resonant Sand Bay might be riding a camel. The camel walks like a pendulum, and takes tourists deeper into the vast desert, to escape from hustle and bustle of city life, to visit herdsmen’s yurt, or to watch that beautiful sunrise or sunset.
Other exciting activities you wouldn’t want to miss are sliding, paragliding, surf riding, karting, etc., all on the desert. You can also spend the night at the desert and live in a yurt. In the evening, there will be campfire parties where you can join in and perhaps make some new friends. The famous wedding ceremony of Mongolians will let you know more of the Mongolian folk customs.
Genghis Khan’s real tomb is still historically a mystery. People have already regarded the Genghis Khan Mausoleum that evolved from the eight white rooms as Genghis Khan’s real mausoleum, with which to commemorate his achievements. There is some dispute as to whether the relics housed here have any real connection with Genghis Khan but this is still an interesting site as it serves as a pilgrimage place for Mongolians and those interested in Khan.
