Guilin is a nice place to buy traditional handicrafts with good quality and reasonable price. The famous local products and handicrafts include water chestnuts, Mangosteen, fermented bean curd, salty-water pearl, medicinal materials, crystal, paper umbrellas and artistic pottery and porcelain.

 

Top recommended products with local flavor are the “Three treasures of Guilin”, namely the Sanhua Liquor, fermented bean curds and Chili sauce.

 

Major shopping districts in Guilin City are Zhong Shan Road and Zheng Yang Pedestrian Street (Walking Street) located in the city's center, Wa Yao Wholesale Shopping District in south Guilin, and West Street in Yangshuo County offering unique items that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The night market on Zhongshan Zhong Road is the best place to pick up souvenirs and trinkets. The market is available from 7: pm to midnight when half of the main street is blocked to cars for the market. The colorful market offers some products unique to southern China such as the ethnic dresses, ethnic minority music instruments, paper fan, bamboo carvings and jade pieces. Many locals mingle with visitors, maybe not to buy but to enjoy the atmosphere. The real fun of the market may come in finding some souvenirs or in the experience of haggling and hustling with the sellers.

Corsvenor Momordica Fruit
Corsvenor Momordica Fruit has a simple Chinese name “Luo Han Guo”. Yongfu County of Guilin is the home town of this fruit. This town has the planting history of more than 200 years. It was said a doctor named “Luo Han” firstly using this fruit as the clinic experimentation and then corsvenor momordica fruit was named by name of doctor. Fortunella Margarita in the shape of bird egg has a golden yellow surface and straw yellow pulp. It is famous in Guilin Yangshuo, Lipu and Gongcheng. This fruit can be fresh eating, made into can and distilled syrup. People like to take special bred fortunella tree as a beautiful bonsai for this bonsai has the meaning of an abundant year. Ginkgo Seed

Guangxi Normal University Art Shop is an extravaganza of masterpieces collected over a long period of time and some of the paintings are centuries old. It contains three exhibition halls with paintings from masters from different periods and from different painting schools.

The small town of Fuli close to Yangshuo is specializes in painted fan making. A vast majority of locals in the town are involved in this ancient craft. These fans are excellent quality and look beautiful, decorated with painted flowers, birds, insects and traditional Chinese girls.
