Shopaholics will be in heaven in Chengdu. As the most important city for commerce and trade in the Southwestern China, Chengdu is home to some large shopping malls and street markets selling both domestic and international brands. People can also find plenty of stores that sell souvenir and handicrafts. Shu brocade and embroidery of good quality and wide variety of colors are quite popular among visitors. Products made from bamboo will also give you a unique flavor of the region. Moreover, lacquer ware, ornate silverware and the highly decorative Qingcheng silk rugs are amazing to behold.
Chengdu shopping streets are centralized in Chunxi Lu, Zongfu Lu, Luomashi and so on. There are a large number of booths, chain stores, age-old shops, supermarkets and shopping malls. Goods from special local products to souvenirs are in varied selections.
Clothing and Shoes on Chunxi Road
Chunxi Road enjoys its reputation as the most flourishing and prosperous commercial pedestrian street in Chengdu. The area is perfect for shoppers who seek apparel and shoes. Featuring both national and international brands, for example; Nike, Adidas, and Li-Nings.
For luxurious brand names like Louis Vuitton, Ermenegildo Zegna, Hugo Boss and others, these stores are located close to Tiangfu Square.
Recommended department stores nearby the area are Renhe Spring, Chengdu Department Emporium, and the People’s Department Store.
Antiques and Handicrafts on Jinli Ancient Street
After its recent renovation, Jinli Ancient Street has become one of the busy trading streets in Chengdu. On both sides of this 350-metre street there are numerous small stores selling handicrafts, antiques, and souvenirs such as Shu embroidery, lacquer products, folk handicrafts, old porcelain dishes, curios, or calligraphies and paintings. Within the area, there are also hotels, restaurants, teahouses, bars and cafés. The street is very popular with both locals and tourists, especially at night.
Lacquerware at the Chengdu Lacquer Craft Factory
Chengdu is a major Lacquerware producer and products are available in many forms including wall decorations and screens. Chengdu Lacquerware is famous for its unique qualities and, most notably, its ability to resist corrosion and aging.
The main factory where most of the goods are produced is located on Jinghejie Road.
IT & Electronic items at Shu Ma Guang Chang Square
Located at the junction of Renmin Nanlu and the South 1st Ring Road, the area contains large department stores and smaller shops specializing in different aspects of electronics.
Shu Ma department store sells all kinds of electronics including computers, laptops, computer parts, cell phones, MP3 players, cameras, as well as some computer software programs and DVDs. Products here are of good quality and the prices are relatively cheap.
Not very far from the Tiangfu Square on Tidujie Street, there is a wider selection of cell phones, both brand new and used.
