Giant Panda Breeding and Research Center
Overview
Located just 10km (6miles) away from downtown Chengdu, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has been created and imitated the pandas’ natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding. The Center cares also for other rare and endangered wild animals. The Research Center covers an area of 560 mus (92 acres), 96% of which is verdure. Giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white storks as well as over 20 species of rare animals are fed and bred there throughout the year. Verdant bamboo, bright flowers, fresh air, a natural hill scene and a beautiful artificial view are merged ingeniously at the base.
The giant pandas are not only a Chinese national treasure but are also beloved by people the world over. They are found only in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. In total there are fewer than 1000, of which 80% are distributed within the territory of Sichuan province.
The Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is located on the mountain of Futoushan in the northern suburbs of the city, 18km away from the town center. The Giant Panda Museum is a unique museum set up for Giant Panda’s in the world. It collects and shows fruits of human knowledge, review and research on the Giant Panda. The Museum shows almost 300 rare, fine pictures and scientific , full & accurate charts about Giant Panda, exhibits literatures and monograph on Giant Panda’s at all times and in different places of the world.
Fossils, dissected anatomical remains, diet specimens, etc. The Museum also has many large zoology scope-enclosures exceeding an area of 300 square meters. These enclosures accurately represent the panda’s natural environments in Qinling, Liangshan, Xiangling, Minshan, and Qionglai Mountain. The Museum introduces and details the Giant Panda’s evolvement history, ancient and current distribution, their general situation, and the current state of knowledge and research being done by humans. This lets visitors understand the Giant Panda, and also shows the efforts made by the Chinese government to protect and save the beloved creature. Although the panda is endangered, the Base is proof that the Chinese community and the world are fighting to protect it and its habitat.
The Museum systematically and completely introduces Giant Panda’s evolvement history, ancient and nowadays distribution, general situation, condition and research of human to Giant Panda’s. This lets people roundly know Giant Panda’s, understand efforts made by our government to protect and save the animal which is loved by people all of the world and consciously arose the feeling to love and protect Giant Panda’s and their natural habitat.
We recommend that the best time to visit is in the morning, between 8:30 and 10am, during feeding time. Outside these hours it’s likely the bears will be indulging in their favorite pastime, sleeping!
