Beijing Capital Museum
Overview
The Beijing Capital Museum is housed at the formal Confucius Temple, where the scholars paid their worship to Confucius during the Yuan Ming and Qing Dynasties.
The history of the Capital Museum can date back to 1981. On December 25, the construction of the new Capital Museum started. It officially opened on May 18, 2006. From then on, the Capital Museum has become a culture window of Beijing, ranking one of the best museums worldwide due to its unique architecture, abundant exhibitions, advanced technology and complete functions.
The main buildings in the new museum include the Rectangular Exhibition Hall, the Oval Exhibition Hall and the quadrate Office and Scientific Research Building with the Central Hall and an indoor bamboo courtyard of sunken-sequel among them. The Capital Museum, boasting abundant exhibitions, distinct architecture as well as agreeable environment, is highly praised both at home and abroad immediately on its completion.The exhibitions in the Capital Museum can be divided into three main categories: regular exhibitions, exhibitions of fine artistic collection and temporary exhibitions, where there are totally 5,622 pieces of culture relics exhibited.
Regular exhibitions include “Ancient Capital Beijing— History and Culture” exhibition, “Ancient Capital Beijing — Urban Construction” exhibition and “Old Stories of Beijing — Exhibition of Old Beijing Folk Customs”. Among them, the “Ancient Capital Beijing— History and Culture” exhibition and “Ancient Capital Beijing — Urban Construction” exhibition are the most important components of the exhibition of the Capital Museum, which has shown the splendid and rich Beijing culture and its history. Exhibitions of fine artistic collection include Exhibition of Fine Artistic Collection of Ancient Chinaware, Exhibition of Fine Collection of Ancient Beijing Bronze Art, Exhibition of Fine Artistic Collection of Ancient Calligraphy, Exhibition of Fine Artistic Collection of Ancient Paintings, Exhibition of Fine Artistic Collection of Ancient Jade Ware, Exhibition of Fine Artistic Collection of Ancient Buddha Statues and Exhibition of Fine Artistic Collection of Gadgets of Studies.
The temporary exhibitions, which are renewed constantly, have already become a stage to study and appreciate the culture exchange between Beijing and the other places around China and the world.
